Blog 11 : Lesson 1 Reflection

1. I am most proud of how confident I felt during my presentation. I am proud of this because I felt less stress during the lesson.

2. I would give myself a P because I made the time and I also gave in depth information on my topic. I would also keep in mind that my EQ needs to be redone.

3. I would get better visuals for my audience. I would also maybe give my audience more time for my hook so they can feel more interactive with my lesson.

Blog 10 - Interview 2 Reflection

1. The way I am spending my mentorship are through ride along and training hours. We either are at the Walnut/Diamond Bar Sheriff Station or out on the streets catching criminals or giving tickets. I am also shadowing during this time because I am getting hands on education on what happens during patrol. I get this education by learning how to work the mobile computer in the car or see how to fill out a ticket.

2. I found my mentor at the Walnut Sheriff Explorer Program. It wasn't hard to convince Deputy Mrad since he is always willing to help out kids and teens.

3. I am comfortable with my mentor but I still do not let that get to my head and I show respect. At this point I am greatly happy, Deputy Mrad said yes to being my mentor. This relates to the time I've spent because it makes the whole experience of the mentorship unforgettable.

4. I think the dialogue between me and Deputy Mrad went extremely well. I think this because his responses were meaning full and I know that anyone who hears the recording can say the same thing. What I am going to improve on will be getting open ended questions. I believe by during this, it will open up doors for me to go out and get surveys.

Blog 9 - Advisory Prep 3

Title: Blog 9 - Advisory Prep 3

Label:  Blogs

Due Date:  Thursday, October 22nd by 8AM

1. I currently have a mentor. I plan on having an interview within the next week during a ride a long. I have not made an official schedule but I will sort that out by Saturday.

2. An area that I fine promising are patrol. I find this promising because anything can happen and it will keep me on my feet. I feel that being a patrol deputy will teach me life skills and will be a promising career to go into.

3. A source that I am going to surely use will be interviews with multiple deputies. I plan to gain this information while getting on hand training during the ride a long.

4. What do you feel is the most important thing to keep in mind when you are working on patrol? Another question is, How does being a deputy benefit you in life?

Blog 8: Independent Componet 1 Proposal

1. Describe in detail what you plan to do for your 30 hours.
With the help of my two fellow students, Jennifer Aguilera and Jessica Jimenez-Aguilar, we will be forming a Law Enforcement and Military club. This club will focus on preparing students for either a career in Military and Law Enforcement. Altogether we will not be disclosing tactical movement nor radio codes. We will show them what is takes to follow this lifestyle and give them an advantage that most people who do not join the club will have. We can also promote programs that they can go and receive deeper knowledge such as the Explorers Program or Civil Air Patrol.
2..  Discuss how or what you will do to meet the expectation of showing 30 hours of evidence.
I will be able to have teachers at International Polytechnic High School be able to see how well our club will be doing. We can show this by showing the improvement of our club members. We can do this by testing them on the academic portion and also show how their physical activity has affected them in a positive way from before they joined.

3.Explain how what you will be doing will help you explorer your topic in more depth.
By creating a Leadership Club it will allow me to research my topic in depth. Diving deeper into my knowledge and applying it to teach others will not only show the important role of Law Enforcement in today’s society but also show society the role of Law Enforcement in their daily life. I will have the opportunity to show those who are interested in Law Enforcement the hard work and dedication that going into that career takes. We would explore the different roles and jobs that are in the county which can range from a county bus driver to being part of an elite narcotics unit.

Blog 7 - Second Interview Preparation

1. My mentor is Deputy Mrad and he works as a deputy for Walnut/Diamond Bar Sheriff Station. He has many years working for the department and has moved through different jobs in Los Angeles Sheriff Department.

2. Where did you start when you got hired? What different jobs have you done from present day to past on the department? What education degree do you have and does it help? What did you go through to be a deputy? What are some different salary incomes that come with different jobs?

Blog 6 - Advisory Prep

1. What has worked well for you concerning senior project this year?  What has made it a positive experience for you?

What has helped me during my senior project this year would be the fact that I am an explorer. This has helped me to get information that the usual citizen would not be able to get. I am able to get interviews with multiple deputies and see first had training. A positive experience is that it encourages me to do my best in the explorer program because going into Law Enforcement seems like a better possibility everyday as time goes on.

2. What are you finding difficult concerning senior project?  How can you adapt to make that portion work better for you?  How might the senior team help?

What I find to be difficult would be getting the time to be with my mentor. He is always training deputies on the field and of course that will overcome my priorities. I have trouble finding a day that he is available for a ride along that way I would be able to talk to him. I can adapt to finding a schedule by opening up certain days in a week or two weeks in advance. Doing this will allow me to reserve a spot that no on else can take. There is no real way that the senior team could help unless they could stop crime like superheroes, but in all reality there is no help they could do.

Title: Blog 5 - Interview 1 Reflection

1. One important thing that I learned was the key differences be differences between LASD and LAPD. I also learned about the different steps that are taken to even get into the process to become a deputy. One thing I would do is not take down notes as the person it speaking. I will also take my time to pronounce the word I am trying to say.

2. Yes, I did not get additional resources and contacts. I already have other people that I am going to talk to. One source of references was to find out the story of a NYPD officer named Sirpico. He said that this story will show me that the right thing to do is not always the easiest.

3. My interviewee is a Sargent in LASD. He has also spent 25+ years working in LASD. He is also the post advisor for our stations' explorer program.

P.S. I figured out how to put images up on my blog, which is a big win for me.

Blog 4 - House Advisory Prep 1

I hope to accomplish not only learning more about Law Enforcement but taking a step closer to getting into Law Enforcement as a career. I hope to also maybe even be hired by the Walnut/Diamond Bar Sheriff Station. I will put all my work into the station, that way they can see how dedicated and committed I am at achieving this goal in life. I plan on working in Law Enforcement and I want to accomplish this goal by taking the small steps leading up to it. I believe that one of these small steps is again showing the Sheriff Station how much I want to be a cop when I get older.

Blog 3 - First Interview Preparation

1.  Who do you plan to interview?  Why?

I plain on interviewing my Training Officer. I plan on interviewing him because he is in charge with training new deputies and I feel he will have the knowledge to answer my questions that I have to ask. I also plan on interviewing my Post Adviser. My Post Adviser has experience in not only Law Enforcement but also has military background. I believe that both these people will help me in my senior project.

2.  Five questions will be assigned to all seniors to ask.  What additional questions do you plan to ask?
What type of degrees or classes should some one take if they want to go into law enforcement? Does it benefit someone if they can speak more then one language? What is the salary that a deputy makes if he/she is just coming in to the field of law enforcement? What are the pros and cons of being in law enforcement? What have you done in the past that either showed or benefited you in going into law enforcement? To my understanding there are many deputies that have a military background, does having this background help you in any way? What are different branches that you can go into in law enforcement?

Blog 1- Senior Final Lesson/Interview Reflection

I am a transfer so I was not able to complete questions 1 and 2. 3. I am considering in going into law enforcement. Law enforcement has many branches that I could go into, such as the gang unit, patrol, or narcotics, are just a few to name. I am also a Sheriff's Explorer so I am able to get hands-on training from law enforcement. I would like to do this because I will be helping my community and trying to diminish crime activity. 4. Some essential questions that I am going to have are, How much would I make? What are the benefits that come with this job? What are some positive and negative aspects of being in law enforcement? Also, what could I study in college that could help me in working in law enforcement? 5. My idea for finding a mentor is that I will see if I could get a deputy to be able to mentor me. With me being in the Sheriff's Explorer program, I am able to interview, learn, and communicate with multiple deputies. I would like to have a mentorship with a training officer.
